Neuv\u011bdomujeme si, \u017ee je to do zna\u010dn\u00e9 m\u00edry syst\u00e9m soun\u00e1le\u017eitosti, kter\u00fd jsme si sami vytvo\u0159ili. Lid\u00e9 mohou b\u00fdt up\u0159\u00edmn\u00ed a m\u00edt pocit, \u017ee je v\u0161e v po\u0159\u00e1dku, ale struktur\u00e1ln\u011b nemohou pochopit ur\u010dit\u00e9 v\u011bci. Ve sv\u00e9 slu\u017eb\u011b Je\u017e\u00ed\u0161 cituje Izai\u00e1\u0161ovu v\u00fdzvu k popisu t\u00e9to kolektivn\u00ed soci\u00e1ln\u00ed pohrd\u00e1n\u00ed: \u201eBudete znovu sly\u0161et a sly\u0161et, nebudete rozum\u011bt, uvid\u00edte a znovu uvid\u00edte a nebudete vn\u00edmat. . . \u201c (Izaj\u00e1\u0161 6: 9; Marek 8:18). Zauj\u00edmaj\u00ed sv\u00e9 mal\u00e9 a dostate\u010dn\u00e9 m\u00edsto ve velk\u00e9m Bo\u017e\u00edm syst\u00e9mu t\u00edm, \u017ee \u201e\u017eij\u00ed na okraji nitra\u201c. Stav\u00ed na pevn\u00e9 tradici (\u201ezevnit\u0159\u201c), ale z nov\u00e9ho a dynamick\u00e9ho postoje (\u201ena hran\u011b\u201c), kde nemohou b\u00fdt kooptov\u00e1ni pot\u0159ebou bezpe\u010dnosti, majetku nebo iluz\u00ed moci.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lid\u00e9 jako Franti\u0161ek a Klara z Assisi se sna\u017e\u00ed \u017e\u00edt na okraji spole\u010dnosti, aby se nenechali ovlivnit zamilovanosti k p\u0159evl\u00e1daj\u00edc\u00edmu syst\u00e9mu a odm\u011bnami, kter\u00e9 d\u00e1v\u00e1. Takov\u00e1 rozhodnut\u00ed lze vid\u011bt tak\u00e9 v \u017eivot\u011b mnich\u016f, jepti\u0161ek, poustevn\u00edk\u016f nebo ami\u0161sk\u00fdch komunit. Existuj\u00ed tak\u00e9 m\u011bk\u010d\u00ed formy, jako jsou lid\u00e9, kte\u0159\u00ed se ned\u00edvaj\u00ed na televizi, lid\u00e9, kte\u0159\u00ed \u017eij\u00ed pod \u00farovn\u00ed zdaniteln\u00e9ho p\u0159\u00edjmu, lid\u00e9, d\u00edky nim\u017e je modlitba hlavn\u00ed sou\u010d\u00e1st\u00ed jejich dne, lid\u00e9, kte\u0159\u00ed se z\u00e1m\u011brn\u011b dost\u00e1vaj\u00ed do rizikov\u00fdch situac\u00ed pro dobro. Je ironi\u00ed, \u017ee mus\u00edme j\u00edt na hranu, abychom na\u0161li st\u0159ed, ale to v\u017edy d\u011blaj\u00ed proroci, poustevn\u00edci a mystici.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chci uznat, \u017ee existuje rozd\u00edl mezi marginalizac\u00ed \u2013 vynucenou (obvykle p\u0159edsudky a syst\u00e9movou diskriminac\u00ed) ze spole\u010dn\u00fdch v\u00fdhod a statk\u016f, kter\u00e9 poch\u00e1zej\u00ed ze \u017eivota v b\u011b\u017en\u00e9 spole\u010dnosti \u2013 a rozhodnut\u00edm \u017e\u00edt na okraji. Oba mohou b\u00fdt privilegovan\u00fdmi m\u00edsty pro duchovn\u00ed r\u016fst a transformaci. Tento t\u00fdden nab\u00eddneme p\u0159\u00edklady ze \u0161irok\u00e9 tradice k\u0159es\u0165ansk\u00fdch mystik\u016f a komunit, kter\u00e9 hledaly nebo p\u0159ij\u00edmaly sv\u00e9 um\u00edst\u011bn\u00ed na okraji m\u011bsta jako m\u00edsto kreativity a vnit\u0159n\u00ed svobody. We do not realize that it is largely a belonging system that we have created for ourselves. It is not until we are excluded from a system that we are able to recognize its idolatries, lies, or shadow side. It is the privileged \u201cknowledge of the outsider\u201d that opens up the playing field.&nbsp;<em>People can be personally well-intentioned and sincere, but structurally they cannot comprehend certain things.<\/em>&nbsp;In his ministry, Jesus quotes the call of Isaiah to describe this collective social disregard: \u201cYou will hear and hear again, and not understand, see and see again and not perceive . . .\u201d (Isaiah 6:9; Mark 8:18). Insiders are by nature dualistic because they divide themselves from the so-called outsiders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I believe it is for that reason that so many saints and mystics and even everyday people have chosen to live their entire lives at the edges of most systems. They take their small and sufficient place in the great and grand scheme of God by \u201cliving on the edge of the inside.\u201d They build on the solid tradition (\u201cfrom the inside\u201d) but from a new and dynamic stance (\u201con the edge\u201d) where they cannot be co-opted by a need for security, possessions, or the illusions of power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People such as Francis and Clare of Assisi try to live on the margins so they will not become enamored by the illusions and payoffs of prevailing systems. They know this is the only position that ensures continued wisdom, ever-broadening perspective, and even deeper compassion. Such choices may be seen in the lives of monks, nuns, hermits, or Amish communities. There are softer forms, too, like people who do not watch TV, people who live under the level of a taxable income, people who make prayer a major part of their day, people who deliberately place themselves in risky situations for the greater good. It is ironic that we must go to the edge to find the center, but that is what prophets, hermits, and mystics invariably do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I want to acknowledge that there is a difference between&nbsp;<em>being marginalized<\/em>\u2014forced (usually by prejudice and systemic discrimination) out of the common benefits and goods that come from living in mainstream society\u2014and&nbsp;<em>choosing<\/em>&nbsp;to live on the margins. Both can be privileged places for spiritual growth and transformation. This week we will offer examples from the broad tradition of Christian mystics and communities who sought or accepted their location on the margins as a place of creativity and interior freedom.
